What Is BIMI?

BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) is a DNS-based email standard that lets your brand's logo appear next to your emails in supporting inboxes — including Gmail, Yahoo, and Apple Mail. It builds directly on top of DKIM, SPF and DMARC, and is the newest addition to the email authentication stack.

Requirements Before You Publish a BIMI Record

BIMI Prerequisites

DMARC must already be enforced at p=quarantine or p=reject (not p=none)
Your logo must be a square SVG file in the Tiny PS profile, hosted over HTTPS
For Gmail specifically, you also need a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) from an authorized certificate authority
Your domain should have an established, positive sending reputation

If you have not yet set up DMARC enforcement, start with our DMARC generator first — BIMI will not work without it.

Why BIMI Is Worth Setting Up

A recognizable logo in the inbox increases trust and can measurably improve open rates, since your brand becomes visually distinct from generic sender icons or first-letter avatars. It also signals to recipients that you have serious, properly configured email infrastructure — the same signal DMARC enforcement itself sends to inbox providers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a VMC to use BIMI?

You don't need a VMC for every provider, but Gmail specifically requires a Verified Mark Certificate to display your logo. Some other providers like Yahoo may show your logo without one.

Why won't my BIMI logo show up after I publish the record?

The most common reason is DMARC not being enforced (p=none instead of p=quarantine or p=reject). BIMI logos only display when DMARC enforcement is active and your sending reputation is solid.

What format does my logo need to be in?

BIMI requires a square SVG file that follows the Tiny PS profile — a restricted, simplified SVG format — hosted over HTTPS. A regular SVG export from most design tools will need adjustment to meet this spec.
